What is Tide? Is it a broker or an insurance company?
Tide is a Managing General Agent (MGA) authorised and regulated by the FCA in the UK. In Germany the supervisory authority responsible for the activity of Tide as an insurance agent is the Handelskammer Hamburg. As an MGA, Tide has the ability to design, underwrite, and manage insurance policies on behalf of our partner insurance companies. All Tide’s insurance partners operate within the Lloyd’s market, which holds an A+ financial strength rating.
What type of yachts does Tide insure?
Tide specialises in providing insurance for a wide range of yachts, including production yachts, semi-custom and custom yachts, up to 50 metres in length and with a maximum value of EUR/USD 20,000,000. Our policies cover both new and pre-owned yachts, including older classic yachts and catamarans.

How do I get a quote from Tide?
Tide works exclusively through authorised insurance brokers. To receive a quote, simply contact your insurance broker and request one from Tide. Your broker will gather the necessary details about your yacht and coverage needs to obtain a tailored quote. If you don’t already have a broker, we can assist you in connecting with one of our trusted partners. Your specialist insurance broker will guide you through the process and ensure that you receive the right coverage for your yacht.
Why do I have to use an insurance broker to obtain a quote from Tide?
Tide operates exclusively through specialist insurance brokers. An experienced broker can evaluate your unique needs, access quotes from MGAs and insurers like Tide, compare options, and recommend the best coverage. Brokers also act as your point of contact during the claims process.

What information does Tide need to provide a quote?

Why does Tide charge a policy administration fee?
Tide charges a small policy administration fee at the start of each policy period. We do not charge any further fee during the policy lifecycle, eg. for mid-term adjustments or cancellations. The administration fee supports investment in our advanced technology platforms – the Vesselverse™ and Compass – which support our twin aims:
Are my premiums held in segregated bank accounts?
Yes, at Tide, your premiums are held in segregated bank accounts in accordance with regulatory requirements. All funds are kept separate from Tide’s operational accounts, providing an added layer of security and transparency.
Why do you need to know my source of wealth?
As part of Tide’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures, Tide is required to verify the source of wealth for all policyholders. Any information provided is used solely in conjunction with these requirements. Personal data provided is handled in accordance with Tide’s Privacy Policy.
Why do you need to know the guardianage arrangements of my yacht?
To help manage risks, Tide requires information on how the yacht is safeguarded when the owner or approved Captain is not on board. This ensures appropriate inspection and maintenance processes are in place.
Why does Tide ask about lithium-powered devices onboard?
There is an increasing use of lithium batteries on yachts – powering everything from water toys to essential equipment and even engines. While they enhance on-board experiences, these batteries also bring a real risk of fire and damage. By understanding the different lithium powered water toys, e-bikes, etc. that are onboard, Tide can provide practical risk management tips to help mitigate risks.

How do I make a claim?
You can notify Tide of a claim by completing the first notification of loss form that can be found here. Other options to make a claim include speaking with your insurance broker. How do I make a complaint?

Who manages my claim?
Tide’s in-house experienced team of claims managers will be your first point of contact for managing any claim. Depending on the nature and complexity of the claim, we may work with third parties to help provide expert input to support our aim of providing an excellent claims service. Once we have been notified of a claim, your claims manager will advise of the steps to be taken.
What if I’m unhappy with the way my claim is handled?
It is our aim to provide an effective claims management service. If you feel we have fallen short of this aim, we encourage you to share the reasons for your dissatisfaction with your claims manager. You can also speak to your insurance broker who can discuss your concerns with us. Alternatively, you can raise a complaint.

How do I access Compass?
If you have been added as a User you should have received an email from [email protected] – Subject: Welcome to Compass by Tide Insurance your policy poral access. If you have not received this email (check your spam or junk folder just in case), please contact your broker (contact details are on page 2 of your policy schedule).
How do I log in to Compass?
Compass uses passwordless login. Enter your registered email address on the login page and we’ll send you a secure magic link. Click the link in your email to sign in instantly. For security purposes, links expire after 20 minutes.
I didn't receive my login link. What should I do?
Check your spam or junk folder. If you still can’t find it, wait a few minutes and try again. For security, we limit login attempts. If problems persist, contact your broker or email [email protected].
How do I grant someone else access to my policy?
Open your policy detail page and click the “Grant Access” button. Enter the person’s name, email address, and their association to the policy. They will receive an email once their access is approved.
Policies
How do I view my policy details?
From the Home page, click on the picture of the yacht to view its full details including yacht information, navigational limits, tender, toys, crew details etc, details of the sums insured, deductible and premium, your policy documents and Tide’s unique lithium risk assessment.
Why does my policy show as "Expired"?
A policy shows as “Expired” when the policy period has ended. If you have renewed your policy, the new policy will appear as a separate entry. Contact your broker if you believe your policy status is incorrect. Contact details can be found on page 2 of your policy schedule.
How do I request access to another policy?
Click the “Request Access to another Policy” button on the Home page. Enter the 9-digit Tide Insurance policy reference number shown on page 2 of your policy schedule and select your association (policyholder, Captain, yacht manager) to the policy. Your request will be reviewed by our team. You will receive an email with the sign-in details once verified.
Documents
How do I download my policy documents?
Select your yacht on the home screen and then scroll down to the documents section. Click on any document to preview it, then use the download button to save a copy. On mobile devices, documents open directly in a new tab.
Why can't I see any documents for my policy?
Documents are retrieved from our policy administration system. If no documents appear, they may still be processing or there may be a temporary connection issue. Please try again later or contact your broker for assistance.
What document types are available?
Through Compass you can access your Policy Schedule, Policy Wording, IPID (Insurance Product Information Document), and Statement of Fact. If your Navigation Limit includes Spain, Italy and Greece you will also be able to access the legally required certification for each country.

How do I make a claim?
Click “Make a Claim” in the menu to access our claims form. You can also contact your broker directly. For urgent claims outside business hours, refer to your policy documents for emergency contact details.
Who should I contact for policy changes?
You can advise of a required change using the ‘Request a Change’ button on the Policy details page. Once completed, an email is sent to your broker so that they can action as necessary. Please note that you will need to have confirmation from your broker that the change has been actioned.
How do I contact Tide Insurance?
For any queries on your policy, in the first instance you should contact your insurance broker. Contact details are on page 2 of your Policy Schedule. For general enquiries, email [email protected].
Lithium Risk Assessment
How can I update my risk assessment score?
Where a recommendation has been made and acted upon by the policyholder, this will have a positive impact on the risk assessment score. The improvement in the policyholder’s risk assessment score will be reflected when the policy comes up for renewal. Tide is currently working to enhance this feature of Compass so as soon as a positive risk management step is taken, it is immediately reflected in the risk assessment score.
Does a better risk assessment score lead to lower insurance premiums?
The aim of Tide’s Lithium Risk Assessment is to share and promote effective risk management steps that help address risks faced by yacht owners. By achieving an optimal score, a yacht owner or Captain will have the confidence they are mitigating risks that could impact the enjoyment of their yacht.
There is currently not a reduction in the premium charged by Tide. It is our aim to analyse the risk management data we are collecting so we can demonstrate a positive link between yachts effectively managing risks (such as lithium-ion) and the overall risk profile of a yacht.
Does Tide make money from the Marketplace?
No, the Marketplace is designed solely to help mitigate risks by providing access to specialist products and providers that focus on enhancing onboard safety.
